Some years ago, while on a business trip to Malaysia, Dennis took the opportunity to visit a number of companies, this was their first meeting.
Malaysia is the vehicle assembly base for a number of vehicle manufacturers. This has led to the growth of well-trained electronic development engineers and manufacturers who support both O.E. and downstream businesses.
One of the markets of interest in the UK was Fleet Van Conversion companies where a lot of electronic accessories were being installed with wiring looms, lots of connectors with little control of outputs. Most products being supplied by importer distributors.
Dennis saw an opportunity, the two got together in Malaysia and a strategy developed. Establish a UK based business not just an importer distributor but a joint venture where the end customer had direct contact with Keng and his team in Malaysia.
This would ensure product development was driven by customer requirements. And more competitive product costs could be achieved.
This was followed by a number of UK trips where they both met various fleet conversions companies. Datacom is the result.
